Can you introduce yourself and tell us what you do?
We’re Ruby and Louise. We’re game developers at the same company. We spend a lot of time working from home.
Where did you move from?
We moved from the Meadows area of Nottingham.
How would friends describe you?
Laid back, artistic, and crafty.
What hobbies or interests do you enjoy?
We enjoy making art, painting miniatures, prop making and playing boardgames.
Why did Nottingham stand out compared with other UK cities?
It’s a small city with a lot for us to do. There’s a strong boardgaming scene, lots of fun places to go out to, and queer friendly.
Had you visited Nottingham before deciding to move?
We’ve been here for five years before this move, but we briefly visited with friends before that.
What did you like most about the city?
The businesses and the people, it just seemed like a good fit based on our interest.
Were there particular neighbourhoods, amenities or cultural aspects that appealed to you?
Multiple boardgame cafes and Page 45, the comic book store.
What first attracted you to the development?
Size and location. Being so close to Sneinton Market and Hockley is incredible.
How would you describe the development’s personality or style?
Communal and inviting.
What makes it feel different from other places you viewed?
The non-conventional three floor layout and edge of city centre location.
Which features immediately stood out to you?
The communal area shared with the neighbors; heatpump.
Did the quirky character of the development appeal to your personalities?
Absolutely!
What room or space are you most excited to make your own?
The living room downstairs . It has a fun layout with no separation from the kitchen.
Do you already have ideas for how you will decorate and personalise the house?
We want to build a small workshed in the garden.
What does a perfect weekend look like for you?
Morning shopping for vintage clothes, Doughnotts for lunch, Everyday People ramen for dinner and an evening of boardgames.
Where do you think you will spend most of your time in Nottingham?
At home, but second most in Hockley. There is just so much to do there
Are there any local cafés, bakeries or restaurants you recommend?
We love Everyday People for ramen. Yello Yard has amazing bread and pastries. Dice Box for playing and eating with friends.
What would you say to other people considering a move to Nottingham?
It’s a perfect place for everyone to be themselves and do exactly what you want to do (especially if you’re a little nerdy like ourselves).
If you could describe your next chapter in three words, what would they be?
Friendly, adventurous and new.
