Meet the Local independents: We Make Our Way

By Our Hands set up in 2018 with the intention of reconnecting people with the ancient art and craft of wood-working and everyday creativity. With many people spending so much of their time in front of computers, By Our Hands meet a need for people to connect to real tactile experiences, away from their phones and laptops.

In their beautiful workshop Located on Sneinton Market Avenues,  you can get involved with a range of courses, such as ‘Make a stool in a day’, ‘Spoon Carving with an Axe and Knife’ and ‘Relief Carving’. Their spoon carving course takes you from a tree to a spoon in only a few hours reconnecting us with how things are made, the beauty and sustainability of natural materials. Their courses are open to all and welcome people of all abilities.

While working with wood is the bread and butter of By Our Hands, the venue also plays an important role in the local community hosting workshops and events by similar practitioners in other disciplines as Printmaking and Clay Engraving and the occasional music event.

On Friday’s they hold their regular ‘Spoon Moot’ , a regular drop in session for carving, during the week there’s opportunities to use the space for Co-working, you can book group sessions with friends and family and take over the space too.

While at We Make Our Way you can learn some new skills and crafts, the experience is also a great opportunity to reconnect with the healing properties of creativity, something we all need from time to time.  It’s an antidote to the fast moving digital world and a healthy and fun way to spend a weekend. So get yourself booked on course and reconnect with your creativity.
