Backlit is great example of how artists and curators in the area are looking to establish strong roots, to go beyond what is often transient studio spaces and galleries. Backlit has received support from the Arts Council and hosts a strong directorial board. The Director Matt Chesney has also unearthed the significant history of the building which was built by Samuel Morley, a pioneer of industry, human rights and education. Backlit shows creative reuse of an old mill building whilst understanding and respecting the history of the area. Great work!
